Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick Up from Kampala and Drive to Mgahinga National Park
After breakfast, your driver guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe and brief you about the trip. Begin your journey to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, located in southwestern Uganda. The drive takes about 8 to 9 hours, with a stop at the Equator for photos and a lunch break in Mbarara City.
Enjoy scenic views of the countryside along the way. Arrive at your lodge in the evening, check in, have dinner, and rest in preparation for the next day’s adventure.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Village Tour
After an early breakfast, head to the park offices for a briefing on the rules of gorilla trekking. Visitors are divided into groups of eight, each assigned a gorilla family to track with the help of a ranger guide.
Enter the forest and begin your search for the gorillas, moving through thick vegetation and steep trails. Once you locate the gorillas, spend one hour with them observing how they feed, play, and interact. You are free to take photos as guided by the ranger.
After trekking, return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Batwa community, one of the oldest forest-dwelling groups in the region. Learn about their ancient traditions, hunting skills, and fire-making techniques that helped them survive in the forest before the park was created. End your visit with traditional dances and songs performed by the Batwa. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Mount Sabyinyo Full-Day Hike
Wake up early for breakfast and prepare your hiking gear. Drive to the park offices, where rangers will brief you about the Mount Sabyinyo hike. You can hire porters if needed before starting the ascent.
The hike takes about 5 to 6 hours to reach the summit, depending on your fitness level. Along the way, enjoy views of different vegetation zones and wildlife. When you reach the top, have your packed lunch while admiring the beautiful scenery. From the summit, you can see the borders of Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
After spending time at the peak, descend the mountain for another 5 to 6 hours. Meet your driver at the base and return to your lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 4: Departure to Entebbe
After breakfast, check out of your lodge and begin the drive back to Entebbe or your preferred drop-off location in the city. The journey takes about 8 to 9 hours, with a lunch stop en route. Arrive in the evening in time for your departure flight, marking the end of your 4 days Mgahinga gorillas and Mount Sabyinyo hiking tour.
