Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
You will be picked up early in the morning from your hotel in Kampala and begin your journey to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The scenic drive takes you through the Ugandan countryside, passing farmlands, hills, and local villages.
Make a stop at the Uganda Equator Crossing for photos, a short experiment, and souvenir shopping. Continue the journey to Kisoro in southwestern Uganda, arriving in the evening. Check in at your lodge, enjoy dinner, and rest as you prepare for your first gorilla trekking experience the next day.
Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga National Park
After breakfast, head to the park offices for a gorilla trekking briefing. The rangers will check your trekking permit, assign guides, and explain the rules for gorilla tracking.
Enter the forest with your ranger and begin your trek. You may come across other primates such as golden monkeys and different bird species. Once you find the gorillas, spend one hour in their presence watching how they feed, care for their young ones, and interact with each other. The entire activity usually takes between five to seven hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements.
After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking
After an early breakfast, head back to the park headquarters for another gorilla trekking adventure. You will receive a briefing similar to the first day, and then start your second trek with the help of park rangers and guides.
Enjoy spotting birds, butterflies, and other small animals along the way. Once you meet a different gorilla family, observe them as they feed, play, and move through the forest. Watch the dominant silverback protect and lead the group.
After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you can choose to take part in a Batwa cultural trail, where you will learn how the Batwa people lived in the forest before the park was established. They will share stories, traditional music, and survival skills. Have dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 4: Drive Back to Kampala – End of Tour
After breakfast, start your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. Make a stop at the Equator for lunch and some shopping for local crafts. Continue to Kampala or proceed to Entebbe International Airport for your flight. This marks the end of your 4 days Mgahinga double gorilla trekking safari.
